CRAFT: A Creative Community will holdits monthly "Sunday Fair" on Sunday, May 6th, from 11 am to 5 pm inthe rear parking lot of the Lipstick Lounge in East Nashville. Local artisans will present and sell original hand-crafted items and artworkat affordable prices. Knitted, crocheted, and quilted goods, clothingand accessories, jewelry, paintings, wall hangings and drawings,prints and papercraft, and many more items will be available.
Visitors to the Sunday Fair will find photographic prints by EricDenton; Jimiyo's tee-shirts; handcrafted jewelry featuring vintagebeads from Rebekah Turshen's My Favorite Plum; art dolls, framed fiberart, and hand-painted scarves from fiber artist Tiffany Dyer-Denton;Nutmeg's "fun and colorful clothing for the modern child", featuringdesigns by Meg Ashworth; silkscreened tees, totes, and accessoriesfrom maryink; and a wonderful variety of other handcrafted products.As this month's event will fall the Sunday before Mother's Day,several vendors will showcase gift items for moms. In the advent of rain, the fair will be held the following Sunday, May13th, at the same time and location (11 am - 5 pm, 1400 WoodlandStreet).
Drawing their operating ethic from the simple maxim "Life is too shortfor ugly stuff", the artisans of CRAFT: A Creative Communityestablished the monthly Sunday Fair in order to promote and supportlocal craft, local artisans, and the spirit of community that nurturessuch creativity. At the monthly events, artists and patrons share notonly artwork, but also ideas and camaraderie. Such events not onlyfoster cozy neighborhood feelings, but spark real economic growth.Several studies have shown that when you buy from independent, locallybased businesses, rather than from nationally owned businesses,significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from otherlocal businesses and service providers -- continuing to strengthenboth the economic and creative base of our Nashville community.
